Back to School Letter to Families

Dear Families,
On behalf of the Linden Tree staff, we welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! We hope you and your family are enjoying the summer months. We are eager to receive your babies in September, and look forward to a productive partnership with you this year.
As you prepare for the new school year, here is some important information to keep in mind:
New Address: Our school campus is part of a city-wide pilot for a new security system. The new main entrance is on 1551 Castle Hill Avenue. All other doors will remain locked and armed. All families must enter on Castle Hill Avenue where there will be a buzzer system once students have entered the building. Visitors will be required to show ID in order to enter the building. The school safety agents will contact our main office if a visitor does not have ID.
School Hours: 8:00 AM - 2:20 PM
First Day of School Hours for Pre-K ONLY: Thursday, September 7 and Friday, September 8– Students will attend by appointment. Ms. Morgan will reach out to schedule each family.
First Day of School Hours for Kindergarten ONLY: Thursday, September 7 and Friday, September 8 will be a half-day schedule.
Students with Last Names A-L report from 8:30 AM-10:30 AM and
Students with Last Names M-Z report from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM
First Day of School Hours for 1st – 5th Grades: Thursday, September 7– 8:00 AM - 2:20 PM
After-School Program: Ultimate Enrichment can service our school for a fee if we have 20 families register. Please email aandrews8@schools.nyc.gov if you are interested.
Arrival Procedures:
Pre-K and Kindergarten students should be dropped off at the former main entrance on Purdy St. Doors will open at 7:58 AM and close at 8:05 AM. Students are considered late after 8:05 AM and must enter through the main entrance on Purdy St. with school safety for a late pass. Classes begin promptly at 8:05 AM.
Grades 1 - 5: Students should be dropped off in the schoolyard entrance on Purdy Street (near the soccer field). Doors open at 7:45 AM for breakfast/early drop off and close at 8:00 AM. Students are considered late after 8:05 AM and must enter through the main entrance on Castle Hill Ave for a late pass. Classes begin promptly at 8:05 AM.
Dismissal Procedures:
Pre-K and Kindergarten: Students should be picked up on Purdy St. at the same door as arrivals. Doors open at 2:15 PM and close at 2:25 PM.
Grades 1-4: All students will be dismissed from the Castle Hill entrance. 1st and 2nd grades will exit through the gymnasium door and 3rd and 4th will exit through the auditorium door. Doors open at 2:15 PM and close at 2:40 PM.
5th Grade: Students will be dismissed from the school yard. Teachers will be outside at 2:15 PM. Students who are not picked up by 2:35 PM will be in the auditorium.
Staff will have a sign-out sheet to release children to authorized family members included on the emergency blue card.
Please remember that we will NOT release children to anyone whose name does not appear on the emergency blue card.
Uniform
The Linden Tree school uniform is black or gray polo with khaki bottoms. A limited supply is available for purchase. An order form will go home during the first week of school.
Our “Meet the Teacher” night is on Thursday, September 14, 2023!
You will have an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher teams to learn about the curriculum, learning goals for your child’s grade, and classroom routines, procedures, etc. We will send out a formal invitation as the date approaches.
School Supplies
Students should arrive on the first day of school with a backpack filled with pencils. Classroom teachers will supply students with all of the supplies they need to learn in school.
